Georgia purchased USD 1,241,520 worth of oxygen from neighboring countries in 9M2021, the figure stood at USD 20,890 in the same period of 2020. The grown rates are related to the increased demand due to the pandemic, as well as a product price increase.
Giorgi Ambroliani, director of the Medalpha Clinic declares, that amid pandemic medical oxygen from Turkey has become significantly expensive, which has doubled the hospital’s expenditures.
"Several months ago, the state was very intensively involved in solving the problems related to oxygen. The price of imported oxygen increased. Neighboring countries increased the price of oxygen by 100-200%. Accordingly, we had to pay a 200% surcharge. The same was for imported consumables. At this time, the prices do not depend on us, neither on the clinics, nor on the state," said Giorgi Ambroliani, General Director of the Medalpha Clinic.
According to Geostat, Georgia purchased the largest amount of oxygen from neighboring countries in 9M2021. Georgia paid the largest amount of money for medical oxygen to Turkey and Azerbaijan.
