Giorgi Melikishvili, founder of Travelfy and Around the World, disagrees with claims that travel package prices have surged this year. Speaking to BM.GE, he noted that airfare prices have actually dropped, offsetting modest hotel rate increases.
“If my colleagues say prices are high, I can’t agree. Airfare is cheaper than last year, and although hotels are 5–10% more expensive, it’s balanced out by flight costs,” Melikishvili said.
He attributes the decline in airfare to last-minute bookings and the entry of low-cost airlines, which have driven competition and reduced prices.
Despite seasonal fluctuations, he says outbound tourism is on par with last year, and expects August to close with similar travel volumes as previous years.
As for top destinations, Portugal leads this year, with Turkey, Cyprus, and the Greek islands also remaining popular. New flight routes from Tbilisi and Kutaisi to Greece have further boosted demand.
