Acting Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze said that numerous ideas were voiced on how to reduce prices and improve product affordability, not only from the government but also from representatives of the pharmaceutical sector. His remarks followed a meeting held as part of the government’s price-monitoring coordination commission, chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Sarjveladze noted that the pharmaceutical field is highly specific, but certain regulatory mechanisms already exist, and work will continue to refine them. According to him, the discussions showed that the sector is willing to cooperate and views price optimization and fairer regulation positively.
He added that ongoing meetings with market participants create a solid basis for the commission to take concrete steps and achieve its key goal: reducing prices and improving access to essential products.
The discussion with pharmaceutical companies was attended by representatives of 25 firms and took place in an open, interactive format.
