Prices on imported used cars are increasing in Georgia,- Vano Bichinashvili, the founder of "Global Auto Import", told BMG.
As he notes, there are several reasons for the price increase, including the problem of the production of chips for new cars and, as a result, the increased demand for used cars in the international market.
"In addition to that, the transportation costs have increased by 80%. As a result, prices for cars in "Global Auto Import" have increased by 30% since December last year. In other words, we got the fact that the demand for the purchase of a car has increased, but its delivery is complicated. If we look further, in the case of our company, car prices have increased by 100% in these 5 months compared to the same period of the last year. Unfortunately, prices are increasing every day," Vano Bichinashvili explained.
In the first half of 2022, 10% of imports to Georgia account for vehicles. According to Geostat, the largest import commodity group in January-June 2022 was presented in the form of vehicles, the import of which amounted to USD 606.8 million and amounted to 10.3% of all imports.
