Primary School Enrollment in Big Cities to Follow Residential Registration

პირველკლასელები

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, children in Georgia will begin primary school at the age of 6, according to the General Education Reform Concept approved by the government. Only children who turn six by September 15 will be eligible to enroll.

The document, signed by Irakli Kobakhidze on January 26, notes that children under six may lack sufficient socio-emotional development and attention skills, presenting challenges for schools.

A new registration process for first graders will also be introduced. Before the general enrollment period, children will be enrolled based on their registered residential address. In 2026–2027, this system will apply only in large cities, with plans to expand it to all schools in subsequent years.

Other details of the reform, including how the process will be implemented nationwide, have not yet been announced.
