The Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee discussed the Draft Tax Code, which provides the postponement of certain taxes and tax remissions for the entities holding the economic activity.

As the reporter, and Chair of the Committee, David Songulashvili elucidated, the change is entailed by the pandemic-related restrictions. The Draft will facilitate the economic activity and especially in the tourism sector. The Draft exempts the hotels and accommodation facilities from the property taxes which shall be declared under the Tax Code in 2022. The tax remissions shall as well apply to the property under the lease if this property is used in the activity stipulated under the respective paragraph, as well as the property used for the restaurants and fast food. The change applies the travel agencies, tour operators and other booking services and envisages that the entity or organization shall not be exempted from the property tax in the form of the current fee and shall pay the duty in the amount of the fee for the preceding tax year despite the tax remissions no later than June 15.

The Draft is submitted for expedited consideration since the tax-payers encounter the non-recognized tax liabilities as of April 1, 2022, and respective penalty interests are accrued. As D. Songulashvili stated, this is a heavy burden for the taxpayers subject to the application of the tax remissions prescribed under the Code. The Committee approved the Draft.
