Tourism analyst Ia Tabagari says poor infrastructure and service quality remain major challenges for Georgia’s tourism sector, warning that attracting high-spending visitors requires better roads, sanitation, safety and reliable utilities.
“High quality starts with hygiene and then safety,” Tabagari said on BMGTV’s Women’s Narrative, pointing to pollution at seaside resorts, sewage entering the Black Sea and inadequate emergency services in mountain destinations.
She also highlighted unreliable electricity and gas supplies in tourist regions, saying outages disrupt both visitors and businesses. Tabagari stressed that the state must ensure reliable roads, water, electricity and gas, alongside better planning and protection of cultural heritage, to develop a high-quality tourism offering.
