As Dimitri Khundadze, Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia told Forbes Week, it was possible to achieve better results with those expenditures in the healthcare sector. According to him, several issues in the state program must be reviewed.
"In general, healthcare is a rapidly developing and constantly renewable field. New technologies are introduced and expenditures are always increasing in all countries, especially in those countries where universal healthcare mechanism is used. We are among the 33 countries that benefit from the universal healthcare program. But I think, it is possible to achieve better results with these expenses.
There are issues that need to be reviewed: the cost of medicines is high; the primary health care ring is less active today than it should be. In fact, it must be the most powerful filter,” said Dimitri Khundadze.
Universal Health Care project is the largest state project, for which 802 million has been allocated in 2020. However, it became necessary to double the amount: 95 million GEL for the first time and 20 million GEL – for the second time. This program is constantly characterized by a similar trend and the government always adds funds throughout the year.
