“It will be a big mistake to ease the restrictions on December 24," Dr. Zaza Tsereteli, MPH, Senior Advisor at the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services told TV-Pirveli.
Moreover, he advises the country to tighten restrictions before the New Year, especially in the light of the fact that a new strain of coronavirus has already been detected in the UK.
"Even if the vaccine is on the horizon, easing restrictions on December 24 would be a big mistake in my opinion, because despite the reduction of COVID cases, we cannot say that the situation is under control.
Even a small opening will cause the virus to run away and be difficult to contain. December-January is generally a difficult month for any virus.
I think the restrictions should have been tightened, probably because you all know that people love to celebrate the New Year for a few days, and these few days can be very expensive for the country," Tsereteli said.
