Travel time from Tbilisi to Batumi will be reduced by over 40 minutes after the completion of the railway modernization project.
According to "Georgian Railway", the completion of the the modernization project is planned for the fall of this year.
In addition to the increasing capacity, operational costs and traffic times are reduced within the frame of the modernization of the Georgian railway.
The project started in 2011 on the section of the main railway highway of Tbilisi-Makhinjauri. The total construction length of the project is about 40 km, including bridges and tunnels.
The construction works are carried out by the company "23rd Bureau Group of China Railways" Ltd., selected by international tender.
The engineering supervision of the project is provided by the Austrian-German consortium ILF Consulting Engineers and Deutsche Bahn.
The value of the contract is over 249 million Swiss francs. In addition to those fudns, "Georgian Railway" spent approximately GEL 400 million from its own revenues.
