Raw materials of semi-finished products are often prohibited by EU legislation, - Giga Sordia, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor at Tbilisi State Medical University, told BM.GE, when discussing the safety of semi-finished products.
According to him, the safety of semi-finished products does not depend only on production conditions, and the quality of the product itself plays an important role - in particular, the origin of the meat.
"What is important is what the product itself is made of. That is, the meat, what kind of meat was used in the semi-finished products. Unfortunately, raw materials that are prohibited by European legislation are often used in production, for example, I mean meat imported from one of the South American countries.
The meat imported from this country is quite cheap and manufacturers in Georgia use it to produce semi-finished products. In this case, the safety of the product does not depend only on the manufacturer or seller. This requires regulation, which is not an easy process and requires a lot of human resources," said Giga Sordia.
