The real estate development sector continues to hold the top position in bank lending, according to statistics published by the National Bank of Georgia.
As of the end of June 2026, loans issued to the commercial sector reached GEL 48 billion, up by GEL 5 billion or 12% year-on-year. The largest share of business lending, GEL 5.12 billion, was allocated to real estate development. Lending to the sector grew by 19% annually, exceeding the overall growth rate of business loans.
The second-largest recipient was the services sector with GEL 4.5 billion in loans, followed by real estate management with GEL 4.5 billion and agriculture with GEL 3.87 billion. Lending to real estate management increased by 26% over the year, while agriculture grew by 9%.
Credit growth was also recorded in energy and consumer goods trade sectors, where loan portfolios increased by 20% to GEL 3.1 billion and GEL 3 billion respectively. In contrast, lending to hotels and tourism declined by 13% to GEL 2.85 billion.
