Record GEL 80 MLN in Traffic Fines Collected in Q1

კახეთის მაგისტრალი

In the first quarter of 2026, the Georgian government collected GEL 79.7 million in fines for traffic violations, more than double the amount recorded a year earlier, according to data from the State Treasury.

Of the total, GEL 31.9 million went to the central government budget, while GEL 47.8 million was allocated to local municipalities. For comparison, fines during the same period in 2025 amounted to GEL 38.7 million, marking a 105% increase year-on-year.

Revenues from fines are expected to rise further, as new amendments to the Administrative Offenses Code come into force on May 1, 2026, increasing penalties for speeding and other violations.

Under the updated rules, fines will significantly increase, for example, speeding (15–40 km/h) and maneuvering violations will cost GEL 100, while penalties for offenses like using a mobile phone while driving, illegal parking, and driving on sidewalks will also see sharp hikes, in some cases rising severalfold.
