Regular Block Trains to Boost Domestic Rail Freight, Cut Costs and Emissions - Guramishvili

გურამ გურამიშვილი

Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili says the launch of regular block trains on the PotiTbilisiPoti route will enhance Georgia’s domestic transport system, increase railway’s share in cargo turnover, and reduce overall freight costs.

Starting this week, four container block trains will run weekly, with fixed schedules that ensure predictable and timely deliveries, departing Poti at 21:30 and arriving in Tbilisi by 09:47.

Guramishvili noted that this will improve logistics efficiency at Poti Port, streamline inland container movement, and create new opportunities for local shipping companies, terminals, and the container service segment.

The initiative is also expected to ease pressure on roads, reduce CO₂ emissions, and enhance Georgia’s position as a key Middle Corridor transit country, with improved connectivity to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
