Renault was the Top Popular Brand in Turkey

A total of 1 038 905 road motor vehicles were registered in Turkey in 2020. The number was 54.8% up as compared to the prior year. With 15.2%, Renault was the most popular car brand among Turks. 
 
According to the latest data of TurkStat, during 2020, compared to the same period of previous year, the number of registered vehicles increased by 54.8%, while the number of withdrawn road motor vehicles decreased by 87.3%. Hence, in year 2020 the increase in motor vehicles registered became 990 577.  
 
In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the new registered cars in December, Renault recorded 15.2%, Fiat 13.4%, Volkswagen 9.3%, Toyota 7.3%, Peugeot 7.2%, Ford 6.2%, Honda 5.3%, Hyundai 4.2%, Opel 3.9%, Citroen 3.8%, Mercedes-Benz 3.6%, Skoda 3.4%, Dacia 3.3%, BMW 3.3%, Audi 2.0%, Kia 2.0%, Volvo 1.3%, Nissan 1.2%, Seat 1.0%, Jeep 0.5% and the other trademarks 2.7% of the total.
 
Regarding the vehicle registrations in December, cars accounted for 63.9%, followed by small trucks 12.8%, motorcycles 12.4%, tractors 7.6%, trucks 2.0%, buses 0.5%, special purpose vehicles 0.4% and minibuses 0.4%.
 
In December, compared with the same month of the previous year, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 177.0%, 82.5%, 56.7%, 45.4%, 39.8% and 30.4% for special purpose vehicles, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, small trucks and cars respectively, while it decreased by 61.1% for minibuses and 27.5% for buses.
 
The total number of road motor vehicles registered at the end of December reached 24 144 857.
 
At the end of December, cars represented 54.3%, small trucks 16.3%, motorcycles 14.5%, tractors 8.1%, trucks 3.6%, minibuses 2.0%, buses 0.9% and special purpose vehicles 0.3% of total number of road motor vehicles registered.

In the period of January-December the ratio of cars registered using gasoline was 50.0%.
 
Among 601 thousand 525 cars registered in the period of January-December, the share of gasoline-fuelled cars was 50.0% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 40.9%, LPG-fuelled cars with 5.5% and electric or hybrid cars with 3.6%. 
 
At the end of December, among 13 099 041 registered cars, the share of diesel-fuelled cars was 38.3% followed by LPG-fuelled cars with 36.7% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.4%. The share of electric or hybrid cars was 0.3% and the cars with unknown fuel type was 0.3%.
In the period of January-December 281 622 of cars registered were white. 
 
Within 601 525 cars registered to traffic in January-December period 46.8% of them were white, 26.9% were grey, 7.6% were blue, 7.0% were red, 6.9% were black, 1.7% were orange, 1.3% were brown, 0.6% were yellow, 0.2% were green and 1.0% were in other colours.   
 
Average age of vehicles registered to traffic was calculated as 14.2.
 
By the end of year 2020, the average age of 24 million 144 thousand 857 road motor vehicles registered to traffic in Turkey was calculated as 14.2. Average age was 13.2 for cars, 14.4 for minibuses, 14.1 for buses, 12.3 for small trucks, 17.2 for trucks, 13.7 for motorcycles, 13.1 for special purpose vehicles and 24.2 for tractors.
