Bakuriani’s hospitality sector is raising concerns about a significant deterioration in the resort’s infrastructure ahead of the winter season. Irakli Goguadze, founder of Unix Hotels Georgia, says that extensive summer construction works have left roads and key areas in worse condition than in previous years. According to him, previously asphalted roads have been reduced to gravel, and with the season approaching in a matter of days, completing the repairs on time appears unlikely.

Goguadze links the cancellation of the Freestyle World Cup, scheduled for December 20–21, 2025, directly to the unfinished infrastructure. He emphasizes that the sudden withdrawal of officially announced events causes major financial losses for tourism businesses. Even past international tournaments, he notes, were held in “highly disorganized conditions,” with the resort struggling to provide safe and reliable transportation for athletes.

Local businesses, he says, continue to invest heavily each year to meet European standards, but much of that investment is wasted when infrastructure fails to keep pace. Goguadze describes Bakuriani as “in a worse state than before,” citing the condition of the road to Didveli as particularly alarming. Despite promises that construction will be completed before the season’s start, he notes that the timeline is already extremely tight for hotels that begin full operations on December 1.

For now, Unix Hotels Georgia reports zero current occupancy, though the outlook improves beginning in December. January is shaping up more positively, with advance bookings already reaching 80%. Still, the overall success of the upcoming winter season remains uncertain as infrastructure challenges continue to overshadow the resort’s preparations.
