Restaurant "Abga", located on Gvinis Agmarti, in Tbilisi, is ceasing operations. The company published relevant news on social media and later confirmed it to bm.ge. The reason is decreased demand due to the current situation in Georgia. The restaurant has employed 30 people.
"Due to the current situation in Georgia, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our doors from February 1st. We are sorry to share this information, but we believe that we will soon return to the desired rhythm," - the company states.
Restaurant "Abga" opened exactly one year ago, and as its director Beka Mgaloblishvili stated in an interview with bm.ge, they initially had a productive two months of operation, but since May, their operations were disrupted in parallel with the protests related to the "Russian law."
"After the protests began, demand fell. When this wave passed, we returned to normal conditions between September and October, but after the elections and with the start of a new wave of protests in November, we practically stopped. This situation affected us very much," - stated Beka Mgaloblishvili.
According to him, during the last two months, the restaurant could no longer manage to cover expenses, including utilities and salaries, so they made the decision to suspend operations.
As he noted, throughout this year, the restaurant's customers were both Georgians and foreign tourists, as "Abga" offered visitors traditional Georgian cuisine."We don't want to permanently close restaurant 'Abga', we have just paused operations and let's see, we are waiting for the situation in the country to improve. Hopefully things will settle down", - Beka Mgaloblishvili said.
