Higher international shipping costs are beginning to affect the prices of construction and renovation materials in Georgia, according to building materials importer Zodi.
The company's Executive Director, Nino Dvalidze, told BMG that container shipping costs have risen significantly, with transportation from China becoming around 15% more expensive. As a result, prices for newly imported products are increasing.
Dvalidze said most price adjustments currently range between 2% and 7% and are having the greatest impact on corporate projects, where profit margins are already relatively low and pricing is highly sensitive.
She added that the company is trying to keep retail prices stable where possible, although price increases have become unavoidable for certain products. Future pricing will largely depend on shipping costs and ongoing geopolitical developments affecting global trade routes.
