Galt & Taggart economist Lasha Kavtaradze declares, that Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Georgia in March 2022 spent USD 48 million. According to Kavtaradze, taking into account these expenses, Georgia received up to USD 170 million in revenues from long-term visitors during March.
"As for the Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian visitors who can stay here for a long time, they incur some expenses, but it goes more into tourism revenues. In our estimation, tourism revenues were within USD 48 million in March, which amounted to USD 170 million in total. We should expect that in the coming months, those who stay in our territory will continue to make these expenditures. It will certainly help the GEL exchange rate," - said Lasha Kavtaradze.
214,644 international visits were registered in Georgia during April, which is an increase of 160% compared to the previous year. Turkey ranks first by the number of visitors, from which almost 36,000 citizens arrived. The second position is occupied by the Russian Federation with 33,556 visitors.
Overall, the flow of visitors has recovered to 39% of the 2019 level.
