Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, and Rustavi Mayor Nino Latsabidze visited JSC Rustavi Azot to inspect new technologies introduced under a modernisation project at the plant’s nitric acid production unit.

The project involved installing a next-generation catalyst in the catalytic purification reactor, replacing its internal components and introducing a continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) to track pollutant emissions.

The modernisation is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve environmental monitoring and limit the environmental impact of industrial processes.

“Introducing modern technologies enables the reduction of the adverse environmental impact of industrial processes while ensuring the sustainability of economic activity,” Songulashvili said, describing the project as an example of how technology, private investment, international partnerships and government support can deliver environmental benefits.

The project totaled €5.26 million. The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) contributed €2.26 million, while Rustavi Azot invested the remaining €3 million.
