The fare for minibuses operating between Rustavi and Tbilisi has increased by 50 tetri, according to news agency Info Rustavi.
Several passengers told the outlet that the new fare came into effect in the morning. A minibus driver also confirmed that fares on all routes have risen to GEL 3.
The driver said the increase was attributed to higher fuel costs and that drivers were informed by the company only the previous evening. “All lines have become more expensive. The fare increased by 50 tetri because of fuel,” the driver said.
Under existing regulations, the company is required to notify the municipality in writing before raising fares and submit the issue to the city council for consideration. According to Info Rustavi, the company did not follow this procedure and increased the fare without council approval.
