Shalva Papuashvili Accuses British Ambassador of Election Interference

შალვა პაპუაშვილი

Speaker of GD Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has publicly accused the British Ambassador of interfering in Georgia’s electoral process. According to Papuashvili, the ambassador's objective was to influence public opinion against the ruling party, Georgian Dream, and to support a change in government.

"Why did the British Ambassador interfere in the elections? This is the accusation I am making against him," Papuashvili stated. He asserted that the ambassador sought to defeat Georgian Dream and install another political force in power. "Let’s ask: who exactly did they want to bring to power?" he added, referencing the findings of an investigative commission that, according to him, reveal efforts to destabilize the country.

Papuashvili further criticized what he described as evasive behavior by foreign diplomats: "Ambassadors play hide-and-seek: sometimes speaking out, other times staying silent. But once they enter Georgian politics and participate in the pre-election campaign, they must act like political players and provide answers."

"Why did the British ambassador interfere in the elections. This is the accusation that I make against him - was this an attempt to influence the formation of opinion against Georgian Dream? We need to do a content analysis of this article, a linguistic analysis, and a legal analysis. It will fail all three tests," said Shalva Papuashvili.
