Share Of The EU In Exports Down By 10 Percentage Points In The Last 5 Years

The share of the European Union in Georgia's exports is decreasing. In 6M2023, Georgia exported USD 398 million worth of goods to the EU, which was 8% less than the previous year.

According to Geostat, the decrease is mainly due to the reduction in the exports of copper ores and nuts. As a result, the EU's share in Georgia's USD 3 billion exports was only 13%. In comparison, the volume of exports in the whole EU this year was lower than only in Armenia.

What Goods Did Georgia Export To The EU This Year?

1) Copper ores and concentrates - USD 179 million, a decrease of 16% compared to the previous year;
2) Mineral fertilizers - SUD 27 million, an increase of 84% compared to the previous year;
3) Nuts and walnuts - USD 21 million, a decrease of 30% compared to the previous year;
4) Alcoholic beverages - USD 20 million, an increase of 78% compared to the previous year;
5) Computers - USD 16.5 million, an increase of 1,100% over the previous year.

The EU's share in Georgia's exports for the past few years:

2019 - USD 412.5 million, EU share 23.3%;
2020 - USD 332.7 million, EU share 22%;
2021 - USD 321 million, EU share 17%;
2022 - USD 432.9 million, EU share 17%;
2023 - USD 398 million, EU share 13%.

In the first half of 2023, among the EU member states, only two countries are included in Georgia's top ten exporting countries, Bulgaria (USD 146 million, eighth place) and Spain (USD 53 million, ninth place).
