Despite growing cargo volumes, the Middle Corridor continues to face significant challenges, according to SKYLOG. Ana Kakabadze, head of the company’s maritime and rail department, said carriers are currently choosing the route through Georgia largely because of geopolitical tensions and the limited number of alternative routes.

Kakabadze said two key factors determine the choice of a logistics route: transportation costs and transit time. While the Middle Corridor has attracted increasing cargo flows, she noted that it has not significantly reduced transit times compared with alternative routes.

According to SKYLOG, this makes competitive pricing particularly important. Kakabadze said that, at present, the corridor does not attract carriers through lower costs, while the limited availability of alternative routes means some companies are effectively compelled to use it.

She stressed that both transit times and pricing need to become more competitive and better balanced. Improving these two factors, she said, would help the Middle Corridor strengthen its position and potentially increase the cargo volumes passing through the region.
