Deputy ministers have been appointed to Georgia’s newly merged Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, 17 months after the two ministries were split. Minister Revaz Sokhadze will again have five deputies: Vakhushti Bagrationi, Giorgi Koberidze, Batu Gurjidze, Ilia Begiashvili and Mzia Giorgobiani.
None of the newly appointed deputies previously served in the Regional Development Ministry. Former regional development minister Kakha Guledani is also not among them, despite Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze previously saying he would become the infrastructure minister’s first deputy.
Following the merger plans, Kobakhidze had increased the number of deputy infrastructure ministers from five to six, but Sokhadze now has five deputies. The ministry told BM.GE only that Guledani was not among the appointed deputies and did not clarify whether he would remain in the ministry.
Guledani was appointed regional development minister in April 2025. Under legislation approved on September 16, employees of the Infrastructure Ministry were transferred to the merged ministry without competition, retaining their positions based on their duties, responsibilities and qualifications.
