Sugar imports to Georgia increased in January 2026, totaling 7,320 tons worth $4.1 million, compared to 5,893 tons worth $3.6 million in January 2025. Statistics show growth both in volume and value, but the average import price fell by around 10%.
Most of this year’s sugar came from Poland, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands. In contrast, last year’s imports were dominated by France, with Russia and Ukraine also contributing; this January, Georgia recorded no imports from Russia and only minimal amounts from Ukraine.
For the full year 2025, Georgia imported 145,503 tons of sugar worth $79.8 million, compared to 135,233 tons worth $87.6 million in 2024, meaning the average import price dropped by 15% year-on-year. The top sugar suppliers in 2025 were Brazil, France, Poland, Netherlands, and Belgium.
On the export side, Georgia saw a dramatic increase: in 2025, 6,980 tons worth $3.5 million were exported, almost ten times the 2024 volume. Azerbaijan was the main export market, while exports to Armenia were minimal.
