Supermarket chain Suzala is preparing to expand this year, driven by rising demand and a growing customer base in the capital. Founder Sulkhan Tsuladze told BM.GE that the chain’s concept is positioning itself as a budget-friendly option focused on household shopping.
Tsuladze says sales continue to grow thanks to both the chain’s distinct market positioning and active advertising campaigns. “We are not direct competitors of traditional supermarket chains. We operate in a household-shopping niche, targeting a more budget-oriented segment,” he explained.
As part of its development plan, the company aims to open at least one new branch in Tbilisi this year, though the final decision will depend on rental prices and overall investment conditions. Several locations are under consideration, including Saburtalo, Dighomi, Varketili and Vazisubani. “Commercial rents are high, so it’s difficult to make a definitive decision. We will assess what’s feasible together with our banking partners,” Tsuladze noted.
The founder says existing branches have clearly demonstrated the chain’s growth potential: the Gldani store has operated for 26 years, while the newer Nadzaladevi branch has been open for a year and a half and attracts customers even from central districts due to significant price differences. Investment volume for the new store is not yet determined, as it will depend largely on the cost of commercial space.
