Street vendors removed from the area around Tbilisi’s Marjanishvili metro station will be able to continue their businesses at the “City Heart” and “Tergi” trading spaces, Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.

Kaladze stated that vendors had received repeated warnings before their stalls were dismantled for violating regulations on public spaces. He said the municipality had identified alternative locations and instructed Chughureti district governor Davit Makatsaria to meet with the vendors and inform them of the options.

The mayor said City Hall aims to maintain public order while supporting people who depend on street vending for their income. He added that the municipality has social, healthcare and economic assistance programs and is ready to help vendors if needed.

The dismantling took place at around 2 a.m. on October 28, when municipal inspection officers removed stalls and structures near Marjanishvili metro station. Vendors had previously said they had not been offered alternative trading locations.
