Tbilisi Dry Port will start operating in the rail transport sector with an access railway track from May. According to the Railway Transport Agency, it is the first company to be issued a safety authorization.

The point is that, according to the Railway Safety Rules approved by the Government Resolution, from January 1, 2025, owners of access tracks must have a safety authorization to manage and operate railway infrastructure.

“Today, the first safety authorization was issued to the infrastructure manager, Tbilisi Dry Port LLC, which is the owner of the access track. Applications are ongoing. In order to effectively conduct the process, the Agency is actively consulting and cooperating with railway enterprises and infrastructure managers operating in the field. They were provided with all the necessary information on how to ensure compliance with the new railway rules,” said Erekle Kezherashvili, Director of the Railway Transport Agency.

According to him, granting safety authorization will contribute to improving the level of railway safety, while ensuring compliance with the requirements stipulated in the EU Association Agreement in the field of railway transport.

Last year, the Arab Abu Dhabi Ports Group (AD Ports Group) became the owner of a 60% stake in the Tbilisi Dry Port and the main partner. The investment in the first phase of the project amounted to USD 20 million, which will be implemented in three phases.
