This year has been the strongest for Georgia’s accommodation sector since the pandemic, according to Hotel Federation founder Shalva Alaverdashvili. He says occupancy at Tbilisi hotels has remained above 90% since May, while average daily rates have also been high.
Russian visitors were the largest tourist group this year, offsetting a decline in arrivals from the Persian Gulf amid regional developments. Tourist numbers from China also increased by more than 100%, helping compensate for the downturn in March and April. However, Alaverdashvili notes that around 85% of the Chinese market currently consists of lower-spending visitors.
Although average daily rates are expected to ease in November and December compared with the peak season, the sector has positive booking expectations and is forecast to close the year with strong financial and operational results.
