Alongside the local elections, on October 4 a large-scale protest is planned in Tbilisi.
At this time, citizens are already gathering near the Parliament, and Rustaveli Avenue is blocked.
Students and other citizens have also gathered near the first building of Tbilisi State University, from where they are moving toward Parliament.
In addition to the capital, protests will take place in other regions, and solidarity demonstrations are planned in around 20 countries worldwide.
Participants, including representatives of civil society and some opposition parties, are boycotting the local elections, demanding the immediate release of political prisoners and the resignation of the Georgian Dream government.
At Freedom Square, near the Tbilisi City Assembly building where the main stage for the protest is to be set up, police movement has been observed since the morning. The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement saying that, to ensure public safety and order, police units are mobilized across the capital in connection with the planned protest.
For reference, pro-European protests have been ongoing in the country for more than 300 days.
