The Tbilisi City Hall has re-announced the tender for the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue for the fourth time, increasing the project budget to nearly 20 million GEL, up by 3.17 million GEL compared to the previous attempt.
The project is divided into three sections: from Besiki Street to Freedom Square (7.98 million GEL), from “Merani” shopping center to Besiki Street (5.84 million GEL), and from T. Chovelidze Street to “Merani” (6.13 million GEL). Each segment saw a notable cost increase compared to the previous tender.
Previous attempts to launch the project have failed, as no companies participated in the bids. Earlier tenders also fluctuated significantly in value, ranging from 28 million GEL initially, down to 12.3 million GEL in February, and later up to around 17 million GEL in April.
City officials say construction is still planned to begin as soon as possible, although earlier timelines targeting a May start and completion by the new school year were not met due to repeated tender cancellations.
