Technical Inspection Fees May Rise by 50%, Sector Says

გიორგი შიოლაშვილი

The fee for periodic vehicle technical inspections in Georgia may need to increase by 50%, otherwise the sector could face operational difficulties. This was stated by Giorgi Shiolashvili, Executive Director of the Association of Technical Inspection Centers, in an interview with BMG.

According to Shiolashvili, one of the main challenges is that inspection service fees have remained unchanged since the reform of periodic technical inspections was launched. Over the years, rising inflation and living costs have made it difficult for centers to retain qualified staff, as current salary levels are no longer competitive.

He noted that staff turnover has become a serious problem, and losing experienced personnel creates additional costs for inspection centers, since training new employees requires significant time and resources.

In addition to staffing issues, the sector also faces growing expenses related to maintaining and upgrading technical equipment. Shiolashvili says that modern inspection standards require continuous investment in technology, which is becoming increasingly difficult without higher revenues. Currently, the inspection fee stands at 60 GEL for passenger cars and 100 GEL for trucks and passenger transport, while discussions about a possible tariff increase are still ongoing.
