Ted Jonas, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Anaklia Development Consortium, is convinced that the Georgian government does not want to build a deep-water port in Anaklia, and there are a number of arguments to prove this.

When asked why then the Georgian Dream started this project, Jonas said that there were different people in the ruling party with different interests. However, the people who supported the port project are no longer in power today, so it can be a precondition of many things.

"For a long time I was skeptical that there was Russian influence and that’s why the Anaklia Port Project was stopped. There are different people with different interests in the authorities. When the idea of Anaklia Port Project came, APM Terminals Poti declared that Anaklia Port Project could never be implemented.

I think there were not many people who took these statements seriously. Prime Minister Kvirikashvili was very supportive of the Anaklia Project, even during his tenure as Minister of Economy. There were other people who were a serious impetus for this project. They are no longer in power today. I think that says a lot," Jonas said.
