The illegitimate government is adopting an act of persecution of the Georgian people, - this is how civil society assesses the planned amendments to the Law on Grants.
As civil society notes, they do not intend to “live by Russian laws and will resist the act of persecution of the Georgian people.”
“We inform the public that the illegitimate parliament continues to act against the Georgian people. In the coming days, the Georgian Dream intends to adopt amendments in an expedited manner, by which Georgia’s friendly countries and international organizations will be prohibited from providing support to Georgian citizens without the consent of the Georgian government.
Today, when state agencies have become party appendages, and the only way to protect people is through civil solidarity and activism, the aforementioned law, by its essence and expected result, is an act of persecution of the people and aims to leave citizens face to face with the punitive system of the ruling party and prohibit the international community from supporting them.
This initiative of the Georgian Dream is a continuation of the strategy of destroying the civil society and the system of public assistance in Georgia, in conditions when, despite the adoption of “Russian laws”, persecution, and the seizure of civil solidarity funds, this goal has not been achieved.
We emphasize that this law aims to turn Georgia into a closed, isolated state, where all spheres of public life should be subject to the totalitarian-style control of the Georgian Dream party and the society should be excluded from receiving the necessary support from international partners and friends. This law also aims to stop the activities of the media and civil society, which provide the Georgian people with information about violations of the rights of the Georgian people by state agencies, corruption deals, and the use of positions by officials for personal purposes, which has become very organic for the Georgian Dream.
The illegitimate parliament is trying to deprive the Georgian people of the support and solidarity of their friends and leave them defenseless - children, women, students, the elderly, illegal prisoners, those illegally dismissed from their jobs, those illegally fined, victims of violence, people with disabilities, journalists, representatives of culture, business and other spheres. To make every citizen who needs to receive the benefits of Western civilization in any way hopeless.
We, the civil society of Georgia, once again firmly declare: we are not going to live by Russian laws and will resist the act of persecution of the Georgian people to the end.
We will not allow Ivanishvili's illegitimate government to decide when and how the Georgian people will help each other, and we will once again demonstrate our commitment to the Constitution of Georgia, the rights and dignity of citizens," reads the NGOs' statement, which was read by Nino Lomjaria, Executive Director of the Georgian European Orbit, at the briefing.
