At its meeting on October 8, the Armenian government approved new standards for the hotel industry. The new regulations concern the presentation of information about hotel services on online platforms and other advertising materials, as well as information provided directly at hotels.

This decision aims to ensure transparency in the operations of hotel service providers, create equal competitive conditions, improve service quality, and enhance the availability of information for customers.

The new standards are intended to guarantee the provision of high-quality services and equal competitive conditions in the tourism sector, while also ensuring transparency and accessibility of information for consumers.

The decision was based on a survey of tourists who visited Armenia in 2019. The research revealed that a significant portion of respondents rated accommodation services as average or below average.

One of the issues in Armenia's tourism sector is the inconsistency of certain hotel establishments with their stated type and the lack of mechanisms for oversight.

The new tourism legislation stipulates that, starting from September 1, 2024, the activities of tourism service providers will be subject to mandatory notification.

This will allow for the introduction of new regulatory mechanisms in the hotel services sector, contributing to the provision of accurate service information, the implementation of control mechanisms, and the improvement of tourism statistics in Armenia.
