The Central Bank of Armenia has announced the introduction of a unified compatibility standard for QR payments, which will take effect on October 1, 2025. This new regulation aims to significantly simplify and standardize the country’s cashless payment system.
Under the new rules, a single QR code at points of sale and service will enable payments through mobile applications from any financial institution offering QR payment services. This means customers will be able to use the app of any bank or payment provider to make payments using the same QR code.
Financial institutions facilitating QR code payments will be required to ensure their applications are compatible with the unified QR code standard. The regulator emphasized that this requirement applies exclusively to payment QR codes and does not affect product-related QR codes, including those used in public transportation.
According to the Central Bank, the new regulation is designed to create a more inclusive and efficient payment environment in Armenia, thereby broadening access to alternative cashless financial services for a wider segment of the population.
