The Competition Agency has reduced fines for oil companies from 55 mln to 3 mln

The Competition Agency of Georgia has completed the repeated inquiry on vehicle fuel market, which was implemented for the purpose of execution of judgments of Georgian courts. The court abolished the 2015 decision of the Agency without deconflicting and assigned the Agency a task of conducting repeated inquiry and analysis of circumstances of the case.

As a result of analyzing administrative procedural materials obtained under the current inquiry (as well as under the initial inquiry), the Agency established the fact of violation of Paragraph “c” of Article 7 of the Georgian Law on Free Trade and Competition by Socar Georgia Petroleum, Ltd., Rompetrol Georgia, Ltd., Sun Petroleum Georgia, Ltd., JSC Wissol Petroleum Georgia and Luk Oil Georgia, Ltd.

The above economic agents were imposed a fine of 3 mln GEL total for violation of the competition legislation.

In July 2015, The Competition Agency imposed a total fine of 55 mln GEL on the companies operating on fuel market: Socar Georgia Petroleum – 14 381 385 GEL; Sun Petroleum Georgia (Gulf) – 11 267 384 GEL; Rompetrol Georgia - 10 845 806 GEL; Wissol Petroleum Georgia – 10 426 393 GEL; Luk Oil Georgia – 4 740 260 GEL; L Oil – 1 209 890 GEL; ETI – 1 172 766 GEL; Binuli 1 – 654 445 GEL.
