The Committee discussed the Draft Law on Tourism; according to one of the initiators, the Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, David Songulashvili, the document envisages the development of the state policy and regulation of key components for tourism sphere management.
“The Draft determines the subjects and directions of the touristic activity, regulates the touristic activity, determines the rights and guarantees of tourists, stipulates the contractual relations on touristic service, functions and duties of the state agencies and municipal bodies, mechanisms of cooperation between the private and public sectors in tourism sphere, and other issues related to the safety of tourists”, - he stated.
According to him, the Law on Tourism and Resorts adopted in 1997 fails to meet the current challenges; besides, legal amendments are necessary to ensure compliance of the regulations with the EU directives.
