Since dogs and humans metabolize foods differently, some foods that are safe for humans to eat may be toxic and potentially deadly for dogs.
Hence, it is crucial to feed dogs safe and nutritious products. However, finding doggie cakes in Georgia was impossible until recently, when Natia Bodokia, first failed to give her dog a sweet treat and later decided to bake it herself.
Positive feedback from society has encouraged her to transform it into a business. Unexpected demand on birthday cakes for furry friends even filled her with inspiration to open the first pastry shop for dogs in Georgia.
“The idea of establishing Doggy Cake has emerged to me when I decided to order a birthday cake for my 3-years-old Labrador Jerry. My attempts were unsuccessful. Consequently, I was forced to bake it myself. In this regard I contacted pet nutritionists, in order to understand the nutritional needs of my furry friend,” Natia Bodokia, founder of Doggy Cake, told BM.GE.
The photo of her first doggie cake gathered lots of likes on social networks. It was followed by requests of friends to bake one for their dogs also. “Currently orders are growing day by day, I think that the idea succeeded. It is important to emphasize that active orders were receiving during the pandemic,” she adds.
The dog’s cakes are made from chicken fillet, beef, and salmon, with the addition of various fruits and vegetables. As Bodokia explained, they are made according to customer requirements, since our four-legged friends, like us, may be allergic, diabetic, so each cake is made in agreement with the customer.
The prices at Doggy Cake vary from GEL 20 to GEL 40.
“The pastry shop of Doggy Cake will be opened soon in Tbilisi. Besides cakes, we will offer lots of pioneer products to Georgian customers,” said Bodokia.
It is curious that Bodokia, a graduate of the history of art and practitioner at journalism, did not have any experience at running a business. “The key to success is probably the love of the work we do. Each cake is made with great love and pleasure. I think that is definitely from here, where advancement comes from,” Bodokia told.
