The government plans to subsidize the vintage with 40 mln GEL

The Georgian government plans to spend 40 million GEL on direct subsidies of vine-growers during the vintage of 2020. This is stated in the document submitted by the National Wine Agency to the State Procurement Agency. According to it, it is expected that about 20,000 winemakers will receive a subsidy this year.

"Every year, the number of grape harvesters in Kakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region is about 20,000 beneficiaries. Georgian government plans to issue up to 40 million GEL from the state budget as a subsidy," the State Procurement Agency's website reads.

With the adjustment of the 2020 budget, the funding of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture will increase by 123.8 million GEL and it will reach 476.9 million GEL. 80 million GEL will be allocated for viticulture and winemaking. Accordingly, GEL 40 million of this amount will be issued as a direct subsidy.

Though, how the rest amount of money should be spent remains unknown at this stage.
