From January 3, 2021, the price of natural gas will increase for non-household customers in Tbilisi. The price increase amounts to 24 tetri per cubic meter, as a result of which gas tariff will be 1.1 GEL. “Tbilisi Energy” announced the decision on gas price increase on December 1. According to the company, the new tariff will not apply to the bakeries.
However, Economy Minister Natia Turnava said that the government would find out, why the company increased the price. At the same time, the Minister noted that household subscribers should not be affected by the tariff increase.
"First of all, I would like to say that we do not expect gas price increase for the population. As for commercial prices, it is not regulated how Tbilisi energy will sell gas to the commercial sector. However, we will definitely communicate with them regarding the announced change. They have a really big responsibility, it is the uninterrupted supply of safe and affordable natural gas to Tbilisi. We will definitely meet, talk, find out how well-founded their plans are and how much it is based on real circumstances and how much the company has exhausted all those internal resources and how necessary it is now to revise the commercial gas prices in a rather difficult situation. We will communicate with them about this," the economy minister said.
