The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia issues a statement on the ongoing protest action near the Parliament.

In the statement released by the Ministry, it is mentioned that any crime will be immediately prevented by the police within the law.

"The protest action taking place in Tbilisi, on Rustaveli Avenue, in the vicinity of the Parliament building, took a violent character, the participants of the action attempted to block one of the entrances to the Parliament, and there were acts of violence against the employees of the Ministry.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the agency responsible for the protection of law and order and the safety of citizens, protects the right of our citizens to hold peaceful gatherings and demonstrations guaranteed by the Constitution of Georgia, at the same time, we call on the organizers of the rally and political leaders not to allow calls to violence and to ensure that the rally does not become violent.

During the action, any violation of the law will be immediately prevented by the police within the limits of the law. In the event that the gathered people do not obey the legal request of the policemen and resist the law enforcement officers, the police will use the proportional force stipulated by the law, including special means," the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reads.

We would like to remind you that today the Parliament adopted the draft law "On transparency of foreign influence" in the first reading. Simultaneously with the discussion of the draft law, the action of the opponents of the draft law was going on in front of the parliament throughout the day. Special forces and law enforcement officers are mobilized on the spot.
