The number of applications for Armenian citizenship filed this year has almost tripled, deputy chief of Armenian Police Ara Fidanyan said today, while speaking in Parliament.
He said Police had received 4,696 applications from January 1 to April 20, including 3,278 applications from February 24 (the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine) until April 20. He said last year some 8,591 people have applied for Armenian citizenship.
The parliament has approved today in the first reading a set of amendments to the law on citizenship, which provide the Armenian government with the right to accept and consider the documents necessary for granting or terminating Armenian citizenship.
Earlier, Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said that since the start of the war in Ukraine some 70-100 thousand Russians have come to Armenia, ARKA reports.
