In the first quarter of 2024, the number of serviced flights at the two main airports in Armenia in Yerevan and Gyumri decreased by 14%.

As reported by the Telegram channel Economy of Armenia, despite this, the passenger traffic practically did not decrease and remained at the level of the previous year's indicators - 1.04 million passengers (a decrease of 0.02%).

"Compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019, it has increased by 80%. There is also an increase in cargo transportation by 24.3%," the message says.

Earlier, BMG wrote that record growth in Armenia's civil aviation indicators was recorded in 2023.

According to official data provided by the Civil Aviation Committee, the volume of passenger traffic at two airports in Armenia (in Yerevan and Gyumri) increased by 46.7% last year, reaching 5.4 million people, significantly surpassing the figures of the record year 2022 when the number of passengers reached 3.6 million.

Armenia's main airport is located 10 kilometers west of Yerevan and is under the concession ownership of Armenia International Airports CJSC, owned by Corporación América, an Argentine entrepreneur of Armenian descent, Eduardo Eurnekian.

After the imposition of Western sanctions against Russia, including in the transport sector, the load on Zvartnots Airport significantly increased. This led to changes in the flight routes of European airlines, which began to bypass Russian airspace.
