Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan met with a delegation led by the Regional Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of the World Bank Group Alfonso Garcia Mora on May 16.
According to the ministry's press service, the meeting discussed issues related to the development of the energy infrastructure.
"The program for the modernization and expansion of Zvartnots Airport was also addressed," the statement said.
Armenia's main airport, Zvartnots (Yerevan), plans an expansion program with a total cost of $350 million. The proposed investment program is designed for the next 5 years.
Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan, located 10 kilometers west of the capital, is under the concession ownership of CJSC "International Airports of Armenia," owned by Argentine entrepreneur of Armenian descent Eduardo Eurnekian.
BMG reported that record growth in civil aviation indicators in Armenia was recorded in 2023. According to official data, the passenger traffic volume at Armenia's two airports (in Yerevan and Gyumri) for the previous year increased by 46.7%, reaching 5.4 million people, significantly exceeding the figures for the record-breaking year of 2022, when the number of passengers was 3.6 million.
