Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan welcomes the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on considering Armenia's candidacy for EU membership.

During the government session on March 14, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the events related to the adoption of the resolution by the European Parliament on closer cooperation between the EU and Armenia, as well as on the peaceful resolution of the conflict with Azerbaijan.

According to Pashinyan, the resolution, which received wide support in the European Parliament, is another evidence of the country's support in its democratic path and efforts towards achieving peace and stability in the region.

"Welcoming the resolution of the Council of Europe, I believe it should become a subject of public discussion in Armenia," said the Prime Minister. "This is another opportunity to discuss the vision of the future of our country. I hope that political forces, non-governmental organizations, and citizens will express their attitude towards this message from the European Parliament," he added.

The resolution supports the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Armenia, as well as expresses support for efforts towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict with Azerbaijan. It also emphasizes the importance of democratic reforms, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption in the country.

"With this resolution of the European Parliament, Armenia's achievements in the areas of democracy and the rule of law are recorded, which is extremely important for the perception of our country," emphasized the Prime Minister.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed the readiness of the Government of Armenia to continue working on deepening relations with the EU.

Earlier, BMG reported that the resolution presented by the Members of the European Parliament was adopted on the evening of March 13 with 504 votes in favor, 4 against, and 32 abstentions. With this document, the European Parliament proposed to Brussels to consider the possibility of granting Armenia the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.

It notably states: "If Armenia is interested in obtaining candidate status and continues to implement stable reforms that strengthen its democracy, this could serve as a basis for transforming relations between the EU and Armenia."
