Salome Zourabichvili, the fifth President of Georgia, has issued a sharply worded statement on social media, condemning what she describes as the country’s descent into chaos, criminality, and dictatorship.
“There is complete chaos in the country… This is the classic final stage of dictatorship, and events are developing rapidly,” Zourabichvili wrote in a Facebook post.
She accused the ruling party of orchestrating a false reality and dragging the country into a mafia-style governance model, marked by Russian influence, fear, and repression.
“Those called the ‘ruling party’ have taken everything into their own hands. They think they can deceive the people with written scenarios and fairy tales. But behind this illusion, the country has returned to a mafia-criminal space.”
Zourabichvili pointed to a series of recent events as signs of a collapsing state, including:
- The arrest of high-profile individuals,
- Threats of violence,
- The alleged suicide attempt by former Adjara leader Tornike Rizhvadze,
- And the targeting of well-known businessmen such as Giorgi Ramishvili.
“Governance based on violence and fear, which no longer distinguishes between ‘one’s own’ and ‘others’, is a hallmark of dictatorship’s final stage,” she warned.
In her view, Georgia is being stripped of its democratic values and European future, replaced instead by a regime she claims is devoid of human dignity and manipulated by external authoritarian models.
