The trial of former Co-Investment Fund director Giorgi Bachiashvili is underway at Tbilisi City Court.

At the hearing, Bachiashvili detailed how his transfer to Georgia took place.

“I am innocent, and it has been proven in Georgia that I am Ivanishvili’s personal prisoner,” Giorgi Bachiashvili stated.

“Today, I want to reveal a major international crime. On May 24, I was kidnapped abroad, blindfolded for two days, then flown to Georgia on an Airzena plane as a kidnapped person. While history records many complex cases, the criminal group, calling itself the Georgian government, has truly outdone itself. I don’t know what they told that country, but they misled them, turning my case into an international scandal. Interpol had suspended its search for me, yet on Ivanishvili’s orders, they resorted to banditry and kidnapped me, violating all norms. I ask that my statement serve as grounds for an investigation. I am willing to share every detail,” the former head of the Co-Investment Fund has said.

It should be noted that former Co-Investment Fund director, Giorgi Bachiashvili, departed from Georgia on March 2. According to investigative findings, Bachiashvili covertly crossed Georgia’s state border into Armenia, bypassing the official checkpoint through a specially arranged hiding spot within a vehicle. Subsequently, at the Armenian border, he presented an alternative passport issued in his name, which confirmed Russian Federation citizenship, allowing him to cross the border.

On March 5, Giorgi Bachiashvili was sentenced to imprisonment as a preventive measure for illegal border crossing. Additionally, he has been sentenced to eleven years in prison in connection with the alleged misappropriation of cryptocurrency belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the Georgian Dream party.

The State Security Service of Georgia announced on May 27 that it had detained Giorgi Bachiashvili.
