The Georgian National Food Agency declares, that Georgian animal products will be allowed to be exported to the Russian Federation. The decision was made by the Russian side on 5 March.
According to the Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, 15 companies applied for the export of dairy products to the Russian market in 2020, and they received the answer now.
“First of all, we are working with the European Union in this direction and the National Food Agency is involved in this. We also have a concrete result, honey was allowed in the EU. The continuation of this process is precisely this issue - the export of animal products to Russia and the Eurasian Union countries. I would like to state unequivocally that this process started at the request of companies, in 2020 the National Food Agency started working on these issues. A few days ago we received the answer that these companies will be allowed to this market. This is a complete process, on which I declare with full responsibility that it proceeded like this. This is an opportunity for our companies to plan more production, to operate their capacities and to have concrete plans in the long run," Otar Shamugia said.
According to Shamugia, no one can doubt that Georgian government fully supports the Ukrainian people.
“As for trade relations with Russia, this relationship exists at this stage and we are obliged to make concrete decisions in each case in the interests of our citizens, our farmers. We are the government that takes responsibility for all these issues and then makes decisions”, - Shamugia said.
